Sophie knocked on Dr. Sheldon’s office door.
“You might want to distance yourself from your half brother.
I’ve already gone to Ms. Cross in administration. Next, I’m going
to the FBI with proof of medical fraud. This is big, and Mitch is
going down hard. It’ll be jail time. He shouldn’t be allowed to
be anywhere near a hospital or sick people, and nowhere near
babies.”
Sheldon opened his mouth first in surprise, then to speak. “I—”
“I don’t want to get you in trouble,” Sophie kept going. “Your
health insurance project is beyond my concerns. I don’t want to
hurt you or Rihanna, so that’s why I’m warning you. Extricate
yourself from anything associated with Mitchell Wagner.”
“Thank you for the heads-up, but have you considered the
fallout if you get WMI involved with the FBI? They’re big, Soph.
If they decide to protect Mitch, it’ll be way too much for you to
handle.”
“Tough. They didn’t know who they were screwing with
when they chose me to deliver early. It’s a fundamental law of
nature: don’t mess with a mother and her baby. I guess they didn’t
teach that in medical school.” She turned and left.
