TEN SELENE My body hasn’t stopped humming ever since I slipped into my two-piece outfit and locked the front door of Charleigh’s flower shop. I smooth my hands over the front of my linen top, the cool late fall air nipping at the exposed skin of my bare arms and legs. There’s a lump in

NINE SELENE Yoga is the favorite part of my day. Thirty minutes I dedicate to clearing my mind and stretching parts of my body I didn’t even know existed. When I’m finished, I leave feeling more complete than I did when I walked through the front doors. After the death of my parents, my grandmother

SEVEN JULIANNA My mother used to tell me love made you crazy. She was wrong. Hate makes you crazy. I’m staring at her picture resting on my brother’s polished, mahogany desk. He’s kind when he needs to be and never takes life too seriously. Unless it’s his business ventures, including Scribe Magazine. I’ve heard

TWO HOLT Every single asshole is looking at me, talking about me. I may as well be standing in the middle of the room naked, waving a neon sign that reads: look at me! Furtive glances. Muted conversations. All eyes aimed my way. Okay, maybe some aren’t, but it sure as fuck feels like it. Sweat

ONE SELENE The giant, shimmering rock in the palm of my hand is heavy and meaningless. I turn it over several times, staring at it as though it isn’t a real, tangible object resting against my skin. Blinking, I’m convinced I’ll make it disappear, like some sort of naïve, twisted magic trick. Love can’t be
